Park Conversations-The Houston Mutiny & Riots
Tuesday, August 23rd marks the 105th anniversary of the Camp Logan Mutiny and Houston Riots of 1917. This event memorializes the legacy of the 24th Infantry Regiment by recognizing the discrimination and violence they endured and tells the story of the resulting tragedy of August 23, 1917. As the steward of the historic site of Camp Logan, a WWI training camp which is today’s Memorial Park, Memorial Park Conservancy seeks to share the stories of Memorial Park, with this tragic day being one of not only local but national significance.
This evening’s Park Conversation will begin with a short excerpt from the documentary Mutiny on the Bayou and will be followed by a panel discussion that includes descendants of those involved in the 1917 event, legal experts leading the modern exoneration efforts for the members of the 24th Infantry Regiment, and local community leaders.
